Mr Bijendra Patel FRCS (Ed) FRCS (Gen Surg) graduated from T.N Medical College, University of Bombay in 1992 and subsequently engaged in higher specialist training in Laparoscopic and Gastrointestinal Surgery in the UK. From 1993 this was under West of Scotland Deanery at Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Trusts (Gartnavel General & Western Infirmary Glasgow) and The London Deanery at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust – St Mary’s Hospital London). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
He was appointed as Clinical Senior Lecturer and Consultant Upper GI Surgeon at the Institute of Cancer at Queen Mary and Barts and The London NHS Trust in August 2004.
As a Clinical Senior Lecturer by October 2005 he pioneered the first Masters course in Surgical Skills and Sciences and set up a “Virtual Reality Surgical Simulation Centre” to accelerate the surgical training by simulation and improve the surgical skills that are essential for building confidence in the operating theatre.
Founder of London Surgical Simulation Academy (LSSA), Mr Patel is facilitating excellence in multi-disciplinary surgical education and research through use of simulation technology for better patient care.
Mr Patel’s main clinical interests are surgery for cancer of the Oesophagus and Stomach, Laparoscopic surgery, Obesity and Metabolic surgery.
