Course Overview
This unique programme offers the opportunity to develop or extend expertise in the established and rapidly developing areas of Operative Orthopaedics and Arthroscopy.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course students will have
- Ability to perform specific core skills in operative orthopaedic surgery
- Ability to perform diagnostic arthroscopy
- Ability to perform arthroscopic therapeutic procedure
- Ability to perform specific open surgical skills techniques
- Ability to understand the tools and methodologies for conducting research.
Core Modules:
- Core Skills in Operative Orthopaedic Surgery
This module will provide the student with a broad understanding and practical skills on bone sawing, reaming and drilling along with fracture fixation and wound debridement. - Core Arthroscopy Skills
This module teaches practical skills in upper and lower limb diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopic techniques. - Open surgery skills
This module is designed to develop competence in common operative procedures e.g. secured suturing, knot tying, applying plasters and tendon repair. - Research Methods
This module will provide you with a clear understanding of the concepts and theories surrounding the issues of research and critical appraisal along with academic writing. - Dissertation
Student will be required to complete a Master’s level dissertation in an appropriate research area. This will be an independent piece of research, requiring the student to conceive, plan and execute an appropriate piece of research based on academic foundations, application of relevant theory and methodology and critical analysis of findings.
