Courses

Study Commitment:

MSc requires both commitment and self discipline on the part of the students. You are expected to undertake 10-12 hours of study per week and to complete one module in 4 weeks. All the students (both full time and part time) are required to attend one 5 day block of theory and research method teaching on starting the course.

One year to complete all the modules and dissertation


  • Semester one: Attend one full day alternate weeks for practical and theory teaching in the first six months
  • Semester Two: During the next six months the students will engage in writing up the dissertation project and will be required to attend once every 3-4 weeks for an hour or as mutually agreed with the supervisor to present an update on their work.
Two years to complete all the modules and dissertation


  • Theory and Practical modules – Finish each module at your convenience over 12 to 18 months as per the module time table.
  • Dissertation: In the second year the student will engage a dissertation project and will be required to attend once every4-6 weeks for an hour or as mutually agreed with the supervisor to present an update on their work.

Teaching and Learning Strategy:

Hands-on practical skills workshop using synthetic and virtual reality simulators, supported by lectures, journal clubs and self directed learning.

  • Practical Skills Assessments  by simulation and certification by the course tutor

  • Continuous Assessment
  • Dissertation project write-up and Thesis

Fees

 

  • EU students £12,000 (bench fee included)
  • Non–EU students £24,100 (bench fee included)
  • EU and Non–EU: an additional cost of £1,000–£1,500 only for those doing a lab based research project.

 

Eligibility

Both UK and overseas doctors with a degree in medicine are eligible to apply. Some postgraduate experience is desirable but not essential. The course does not involve any direct contact with the patients and hence GMC registration is not required for overseas doctors.

Information for overseas doctors

In addition to the above criteria, all overseas doctors should provide scores of any English language test, eg TOEFL/IELTS (minimum score required TOEFL 590 and IELTS 6.5).
